Policy Against Substance Abuse At The Workplace
Abstract
Background: Italian laws mandate alcohol- and drug-testing at the workplace. Companies are advised to develop an effective health and safety management system, in order to minimize hazards directly or indirectly streaming from work.
Methods: The Italian study group on Hazardous Workers (La.R.A.) is an association of physicians from different specialties, jurists, bioethicists, trade unionists, and employers, aiming at defining and implementing preventive policies on how to manage hazardous workers. LaRA held a meeting on workplace alcohol- and drug-testing in Rome, April 5, 2008, and developed a Consensus Document.
